Activity Two

Now that we have read In the Company of Sinners and Saints together as a class, it is your turn to enter the spotlight and put on your writer’s cap. First, let’s recap what happened in the last Act (2): Lucy was injured in a bicycle incident on the way over to Video Guy’s house. While Lucy lies in a coma in the hospital, she is visited by her patron Saint Lucy. By the conclusion of the play, Lucy comes to the realization that it is best to “forgive and remember” than to hold a vengeful grudge against those who have wronged her.

Your Task:
Erase the ending and rewrite your own! Yup, that’s right, you will be rewriting the last Act (2) to the play. Your rendition of Act 2 must fit in the sequential events of the play, picking up where Act 1 left off. Be sure that your version of Act 2 makes a smooth transition from the previous Act and offers a clear, unifying resolution at the play’s conclusion.

Guidelines:
1.) Must include stage directions. Stage directions are instructions specifying movement of actors, tone, arrangement of scenery, etc. Stage directions are placed in parenthesis and italicized, for example: (ST. LUCY looks up innocently). You must have at least 8 stage directions.
2.) Act 2 must be typed, double-spaced, 12 size font, using standard margins and formatting. At least 2 pages in length.
3.) The “voice” and style in the dialogue needs to follow the existing fictional text form to match the rest of the story: existing characters’ personalities must stay true to the text. You are welcome to introduce a new character as long as there is a direct purpose/effective integration of the character into the plot.
4.) Quality writing standards, including correct conventions need to be applied to your revision of the last Act.
